The Ultimate Sizing Guide
We understand that shopping online for any type of apparel or specialty gear can be tough. REALLY tough. When it comes to waders, things can get even trickier. This is why most wader companies use a generic "one-size-fits-most" approach. Although this approach seems easier for them, it leaves you, the consumer, stuck with a product that doesn't fit. This is why Gator Waders has spent countless hours developing a unique sizing model thats helps you get as close to that perfect fit as possible.
Feel free to jump straight to the SIZE CHART for the best sizing recommendation.
Waders Size (Body)
This is where things get a little more personal. We understand that everyone is built different and it is nearly impossible to make a wader to fit everyone. That doesn't mean we can't try! With our unique sizing model, we have come up with 9 specific body types. 4 for MEN and 5 for WOMEN, each designed to fit a specific body type. Whether you are tall and thin or short and stocky or any combination in between, we are confident we will have a size for you.
The most common of our Men's sizes, the "Regular" was designed for the average height with a slender build. Generally speaking, someone between the height of 5'5" and 6'0" who wears up to a size large or x-large t-shirt would fit comfortably in a "Regular".
The "Stout" size is also a very common size. Designed for someone who is average height but with a little stockier build. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 5'5" and 6'0" who wears around an x-large to xx-large t-shirt would fit comfortably in a "Stout".
A bit more of a unique size, the "Long" is perfect for those tall slender fellas. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 6'1" and 6'6" who wears around a large or x-large t-shirt would fit comfortably in a "Long".
Well, the name kind of says it all. The "King" size was designed for the all around big guys. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 6'1" and 6'6" who wears upwards to an xx-large t-shirt would fit comfortably in a "King".
The smallest of the bunch. This size "Small" was meant for the petite ladies. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 4'9" and 5'5" whose jean size is between a 00 and 4 would fit comfortably in a "Small".
The most common of our Women's sizes, the "Medium" was designed for the average built lady. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 4'9" and 5'10" whose jean size is between a 4 and 10 would fit comfortably in a "Medium".
Another very common size in the women's, the "Large" is similar in height as the medium but with a little more room in the body. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 4'9" and 5'10" whose jean size is between a 10 and 12 would fit comfortably in a "Large".
For the ladies who are looking for even more room, the "X-Large" offers just that. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 4'9" and 5'10" whose jean size is between a 12 and 14 would fit comfortably in a "X-Large".
The "XX-Large" waders are perfect for those who were blessed with a little more curves. Generally speaking, someone whose height is between 4'9" and 5'10" whose jean size is between a 16 and 18 would fit comfortably in a "XX-Large".
For many, this is the trickiest step. This step in very dependent on the style wader that you chose, as there are several styles of boots, and each may fit differently. Please see below for a better description of each style boot.
RETRO & THROTTLE SERIES BOOTS (ROUND DOWN)
The Retro Series and Throttle Series waders are only available in even-sized boots. For Women, that would be 6, 8, or 10. For Men, that would be 8, 10, 12, or 14. If you wear an odd size, do not be discouraged by this. Our boots are sized to accommodate a wider range of foot sizes than a standard shoe. For instance, if you normally wear a size 9 in a tennis shoe, we recommend you choose the size 8 boot. If you wear a 9.5, your feet may be a little cramped in an 8 so we recommend going up to 10.
SWAMP SERIES BOOTS
The Swamp Series waders are a bit more unique. Because these are uninsulated boots that fit more like a normal tennis shoe, we offer these in every whole size. For Women, that would be 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10. For Men, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, or 14. If you wear a half size, we recommend going up to the next size to ensure you have room to layer up if needed.
SHIELD & SHADOW SERIES BOOTS (ROUND UP)
The Shield & Shadow Series waders are both offered in even sizes only as well. For Women, that would be 6, 8, or 10. For Men, that would be 8, 10, 12, or 14. These boots run fairly true to size so if you find yourself in-between sizes, we suggest you round up to the next even size. For instance, if you normally wear a size 9 or 9.5 in a tennis shoe, we recommend a size 10 boot.
Try them on
When unboxing your new waders, try them on right away. Comfort is key. We want to be sure that you are 100% satisfied with the fit of your waders. Whether you are gearing up for your next weekend out at the mud park or getting ready to hit the flooded timbers for some good duck hunting, choosing the right wader for your need is crucial to getting the correct size. Gator Waders offers many unique styles constructed from many different materials, and not all will fit the same. Please understand that if you have a little extra room in the knees, that is quite ok. Our waders are designed for all sorts of outdoor activities so, when you are sitting, kneeling, or walking, the last thing you want is to have any sort of restriction in your movement due to your waders. If for whatever reason your waders do not fit or you are just not satisfied with them, please check out our RETURNS & EXCHANGES page and complete the form to initiate an exchange or return.
